Yesterday I was finally able to pick food out of the garden! We got a zucchini and a cucumber. We’ve been getting a couple green beans a day, but this is the first big stuff.
So today is zucchini bread-making day. Two loaves…one in the freezer, one to keep out and eat. And that’s what I do with every batch of bread or pie from garden produce. That way we have breads all through winter and spring!
Some tomatoes are growing but green, but the cantaloupe and pumpkins have yet to produce. We got it started late this year. But a garden’s a garden

My upper legs/butt are so sore today! It’s been so long since I’ve been sore I almost forgot I had muscles down there.
Last night dh and I did a short (30 min) Wii Fit session. I did lunges, squats, sit-ups, push-ups, some yoga, jogging, and a few others.
It didn’t help that earlier in the day I did some yard work. We’ve had so much wind this winter and there were pine branches and needles all over. They’re not all picked up yet; I just got the big stuff. Tomorrow when it’s 72 degrees and sunny (yay!!!) I’ll go rake up the rest around the kids’ play area of the yard.
And in another 2 months I can start the garden!! I’m so excited for that. I learned a lot last year (it was our first one) so I’m definitely going to make some changes. Can’t wait!
I love spring!!!!

As you probably know, we decided to plant a garden this year. We didn’t know what we were doing…we threw a bunch of plants in the ground and hoped they’d grow.
Our zucchini started out great. Then some little bugs got into them and killed them.
Our pumpkins are weird…kinda mis-shaped. But we got a few and they’re gonna make some good pies.
Our cantaloupe flopped. As did our watermelon. The cantaloupe started out great…we had quite a few growing…6 I think. Then I made a big mistake.
I weeded the garden. I thought they were supposed to be weeded, too. Crazy, right?
And the melons shriveled and died. We got 2 first…the first was really mealy. The second had no flavor. But then we saw one off to the side, one lonely cantaloupe nestled in some tall grass. So today Pierce and I picked that melon since it was finally ripe. And it was probably one of the sweetest I’ve ever had! Super juicy, too.
So I’ve learned my lesson!! I’ll never weed my garden again!
