We’re at a lull in the adoption process for the moment. We’re waiting on our 2nd (and final) home study visit which will be in a couple weeks.

But life still goes on! My husband’s grandma died last week, so he’s going to Wisconsin for the funeral this week.

Next week Gab heads out to Utah for her cousin’s wedding.

And amidst those things, there’s band concerts, hair appointments, dr appointments, a few church get-togethers, parties for me to plan out (2 for church, 1 for the boys)…..sigh….

Unfortunately most of things are just on my mind and not to the point of being able to put into action. This is a frustrating thing for me. So I’m left feeling a little anxious….so much to do and I have to just sit and wait for the days to come!

A friend at church is pregnant, due the first week of June.

Our Girl’s Night group decided we would throw her a diaper shower, complete with big diaper cake. We thought of this back in January or February.

Someone else (that doesn’t come to Girl’s Night ‘cuz she chooses not to, not b/c she’s not been invited) threw her one before ours. So today was that shower. Complete with diaper cake ๐Ÿ˜€

Normally this might irritate me, but the pregnant friend is a great person and diapers will be much needed for her. So the girl’s night group and I just had a laugh over it and our friend will get a kick out of a surprise shower we’re having.

She thinks our next Girl’s Night (a week from now) is just that, but it really is the surprise shower. So I hope she’ll enjoy all the diapers!

Well, last night was my turn for Girl’s Night. Our theme was “I’m Seeing Red!”

It was fun…I made tomato soup, sandwiches, tuna-noodle salad and red punch. Of course all this was served on red plates, red bowles, and red cups.ย  We also had red twizzlers and red-wrapped chocolate. Later for dessert, we had heart-shaped red velvet mini-cakes. I cut the tops off and spread icing in the middle. They were really good ๐Ÿ˜€

We played Valentines Day Pictionary, Truth or Dare, and “Guess how many candies are in the jar.” I gave a prize to the person who did the worst dare…the one who won ate a teaspoon of wheat flour.ย  Ewww…The worst thing I did was stick dog food up my nose. Yes, it was very childish. But we had a lot of fun. Everyone had to do at least one dare. And we took plenty of pictures…confidential to Girl’s Night, of course.

So another good night! Everyone left at midnight and I was happy I didn’t have to drive anywhere. One of the many perks of having it at my house!

The first day of another new year. Love it ๐Ÿ™‚

Last night we had friends over. They’re about our ages with 5 cute little kids (and she’s pg with the 6th) ages 8 to 2. It was not the quietest night we’ve had, but it was tons of fun. We had all the usual party foods (chips and dip, crackers and cheese, fruit and dip, pizza, bubbly (non-alco) and rice crispies) so the kids enjoyed that.

The adults played some games while the kids split into 2 groups…their 2 yr old, their 3 yr old and our 3 yr old upstairs in his room, and their other 3 and our dd were in dd’s room playing other games.

The fun came to an end when one of the kids came down and said, “The boys are playing in the toilet!” Oh, nice…ย  Luckily it was their 2, not ours, so I volunteered our bathtub and Pierce’s extra jammies since they were soaked! I was glad I scrubbed the toilet earlier! lol still ewww though.

Now we have dd’s b-day coming up soon, then mine, then our 7th anniversary, then V-day! So the parties still won’t end for another month. And February is my month for Girl’s Night here. I love having an excuse to play ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m tired. Very tired.

The friend that hosted did a great job on the food spread. She had pinwheel-like sandwiches, chips, crackers and dip, eggnog and hot chocolate. Everything was really good. And she held the party in her basement, which has a nice fireplace…that’s where I sat for the evening. I love fireplaces!

So we did the usual eating and talking with a few Christmas games. Her craft for the night was really really cute. You get a mason jar, fill it half-way with epsom salt, add a votive on top, tie a ribbon around it and a sprig of holly and you’re done! Wicked easy and cute.ย  She said it’s an old Irish custom…that it was a common practice at the time of Christ’s birth for the innkeepers to leave a candle outside or in a window if there was a room available.ย  So the Irish part of the custom is to have the oldest daughter light it on Christmas Eve and put it outside. This symbolizes telling Christ there is room for him at your home. So our dd will enjoy that this year.

Then we did the cookie swap, which was the theme…cookies. Holy cow, there were so many cookies there!!! Each of us (6) brought approximately 60 cookies. We were so cookied out! We brought half a dozen for each person invited plus a dozen to share during the party.ย  One person didn’t show, so there were plenty of extras, and none of us wanted to bring our own cookies home. I seriously have cookies everywhere!

I got home late…coughearlyamcough but Paul had the kids in bed. So I’m tired, but it was lots of fun as usual and I’m looking forward to January already. I have February and it’s already planned out ๐Ÿ˜€

Last night my dh had his work party…not the whole business, just IT and their families. Only one other person brought her 2 kids. Luckily ours were behaving well.

They had lots of wine and beer…we were two of 5 people not drinking, so it was fun watching other people get tipsy ๐Ÿ˜€

Dinner consisted of steak or chicken (we all had steak), potatoes, green beans, rolls and salad. The steaks were good. Not Ruth’s Chris good, but good.

I brought a rum pound cake (extract, not real rum) that turned out tolerably well. Paul said it was one of the best cakes he’s had in a long time and was happy to bring the rest home. I made a butter rum glaze for the top that I was pretty proud of.

So it was there. It was sweet my honey really wanted me to go…he said there were a few people who either didn’t invite their spouses or their spouses didn’t want to go. It’s always nice to be wanted!

More cookie making for today…Girl’s Nite tonight! Yay!!

Happy Birthday Little Guy!!!

It’s amazing how fast 3 years has gone by! He’s getting so big and has grown out of most of his baby trials. (yay!) He loves playing with his sister and daddy and he’s even sharing his prized “yellow blankie” with his brother. That’s quite a feat! He’s already got a good throwing arm and we’ll probably see him play soccer next year! Wow. He was “the baby” and now he’s the big brother; I think he and Dean will be pretty tight. I can totally see the 2 boys whispering in a corner, conspiring against their big sister. Can’t wait. ๐Ÿ˜€

He’s a little talker and likes to tell people, “I’m Piercey Comfort!” He comes up with the funniest things to say. Earlier this week he began saying to me, “Yes, sir!” I just laugh…at least it’s not “no”. His conversations with his animals and toys are hilarious. Sunday night he was supposed to be in bed, but we heard him saying, “Come on, kitten, take my hand! Come on kitten!” He wanted the kitten over the gate and into his room so he could play with her.

Hopefully he’ll eat his cake this year. I don’t have any messy cake pictures. He had a cold on his first birthday, and he only ate the cookies off the cake for his 2nd birthday. He’s much more willing to get messy and try new things now, so I think we’ll have some luck. If he does get into it, I’ll post a pic.

I was starting to panic yesterday morning when I had only heard from 2 people out of 5. One was coming, one wasn’t. But then I began to get phone calls so I had hope again! Three of my girlies showed up, then one called (who said she was coming) and said she wouldn’t be able to make it. So it was the 4 of us.

We ate and just sat around and talked for 4 hours! It was great.ย  Most men would have been bored to tears and the children would have preferred bed to our conversations, but it was nice. It’s not often I (or the others that were here) get opportunities to just sit around munching and chatting about whatever comes up.

One of the ladies is really going through some hard times; I could tell it felt good to be able to talk to others about her struggles. And it was good to hear; it helped me appreciate that my life is ok at the moment. We also got to know her better and understand her, which helps build friendship and love. We all could relate to her stories to a degree.

We discussed kids, husbands, faith, funny stories, and what we had in common. We were all quite surprised how pieces of our lives are so much alike.

I told them I’d like to do this again in 3 or 4 months; one friend suggested we rotate homes and said she’d take the next party. Another one said we ought to do this monthly and said she’d take a month as well. So hopefully this will be an on-going event.ย  YAY! I might have a social life once again ๐Ÿ˜€

On a message board I hang out on, one of the girls mentioned girl’s nights and going out. I realized that’s just not something I’ve done in a long, long time. I have a lot of friends at church and the gym, but no one I hang out with for fun. Pathetic and sad, yes, it is.

So I came up with the idea of having a Girl’s Night In party at my house. I’ll kick Paul and the boys out of the house (Gab’s already out for another week and a half) and have some fun! I invited some of the ladies at church–the ones that don’t socialize either b/c of small kids at home. We’re going to eat pizza, play games and just be kinda goofy. Stuff stay-at-home-moms don’t do often with others. I’ve already made my menu: the previously-mentioned pizza (1bought and 1healthy homemade version of bacon cheeseburger on whole wheat crust), veggies and dip, punch, and dessert. I’m looking forward to the dessert (of course). It’s that mud pie stuff, but I’m going to layer it (pudding, cool whip, crushed cookies) in carved crystal, long-stemmed glasses. That way it’s luscious and lovely ๐Ÿ˜€

Then I’ll get back on the treadmill Saturday to work off all the calories. *sigh*
