General Life

So Thankful.

Lately we’ve decided to cut back on our spending. We’ve cut Rhapsody, Starz movie channels, groceries (splurges/unnecessary stuff), and this week car payments. How? We traded in Paul’s ’02 Altima to a ’04 Corolla S. Trading cut not only car payments, but gas (yay!) as well. On our way home from the dealership, we stopped and got milk.  I remarked to Paul, “You realize...

Holiday Recipes!

A friend sent me a great list of holiday cakes, so instead of sharing all if them, here’s the link to the site. Once I got there, I remembered it from when my oldest was really little…it’s great. There’s so much fun stuff! It’s got things for kids, like letters to Santa, activities, and stories. I went ahead and bookmarked it since this post...

Economic Scare(y).

The rumor is Washington Mutual went under because of a run on the bank yesterday. Word on the ‘net is that there have been a few other runs around the country. Sound familiar? The government is trying not to say the word “depression”…instead they’re saying “recession.” Recession as in bald guy or just receding hair line? We learned about the Great Depression in the...

Not My Chicken.

You know those stories of dog-saving-owner? Check this out. An Arizona German shepherd named Buddy has called 911 3 times! His owner has seizures, so he was trained to call for help.  His owner Joe Stalnaker adopted him at 8 weeks from a Michigan Paws with a Cause, an organization that trains for special-needs owners. The dog is now 18 months old, and can...

A Couple Things…

First, we finally started our composting. Since it’s the end of our garden for the year, we’re doing the “dump and bury” method suggested to me earlier by 32 Flavors.  Next year in the spring we’ll probably go for the more complex method Midwest Mom told me they do. Second, I decided what I want to be when I grow up. A weatherwoman. Seriously,...

What Would You Do?

Your brother (your only sibling!) was born with one kidney. Now it’s failing. You are a match to donate. Would you do it? I think most would. Ok, let’s add a catch. You’re an athlete and you have a career ahead of you. Giving up a kidney would sacrifice your dream. Would you still do it? I’d still say most would. It would be...

I’m Cheap.

We decided to par down our grocery bill lately. This can be difficult for me, since I like to make a wide variety of foods and they’re not usually boring or repetitive. I like the challenge of cooking complexly. So I came up with a menu for the week and thought I’d share, just in case anyone needs some ideas. And if you have...

Walking Work Out!

Here’s a great (read evil and mean) walking workout for a treadmill. If your elevations are different, adjust to what you can. Elevation at a 3 is just slightly uphill. A 12 is pretty steep.  Good luck! Keep your speed at 3.5…if you’re already in shape keep it at 4. 0-5 min…elevation at 3. 5-7 min…elevation at 9. 7-8 min…elevation at 5. 8-10 min…elevation...

I Started a Workout Group!

A couple weeks ago I invited a friend to come work out with me…I need motivation. And if I know someone is coming over, it’s motivation to push myself and give her a good workout. I get a sick kick out of making someone sore. 😀  Really, that’s when I know I did a good job and did it right…not trying to be mean...
